Every spring, my daughter (many of whose photos appear elsewhere on this site) and I make a 24-hour trip to see the great Sandhill Crane migration as it passes through Nebraska. 600,000 of these 4-foot-tall birds spend several weeks grazing in the corn fields and sleeping on the Platte River's sand bars, bulking up for the rest of their northward migration. It's quite a sight, and one that people come from all over the world specifically to witness.

Within this set, the images whose names begin with "C7D_" were made by my daughter (then 15 years old).
