Sandhill Cranes 2018

]]>Every spring, my daughter (many of whose photos appear elsewhere on this site) and I make a 24-hour trip to see the great Sandhill Crane migration as it passes through Nebraska. 600,000 of these 4-foot-tall birds spend several weeks grazing in the corn fields and sleeping on the Platte River's sand bars, bulking up for the rest of their northward migration. It's quite a sight, and one that people come from all over the world specifically to witness.

Within this set, the images whose names begin with "C7D_" were made by my daughter (then 16 years old).

Bald Eagles 2018

]]>Every winter, frozen fishing grounds drive bald eagles south along the Mississippi River, where the turbulence caused by dams keeps small patches of water open and stuns the fish. Eagles gather around the dams by the hundreds as long as the weather stays cold.

These images were shot in mid-January 2018 at dams 18 and 19 along the Iowa-Illinois border.

]]>I love the competition, camaraderie, and excitement that occurs in sports. I love capturing the critical action and behind-the-scenes moments, whether it's YMCA micro-soccer, a celebrity golf tournament, or the national BMX championship. I also love creating dramatic action portraits of athletes. Please contact me to discuss the details of your next event!
